| Got a recent mailing from Lumineers advocating just this application....I agree that its much more predictable esthetically just to replace the entire crown, this time with an all ceramic one. | Let me think,,,, $950 for a laminate repair to an old crown $1000 for a new crown I can almost predict what most people would choose. BTW, you need to address why the margin of the crown is exposed. Look up "Abfraction". -- / Amatus / "Steven Bornfeld" <dentaltwinmung[at]earthlink.net> wrote in message news:1ISdnTRvVqJS5abVnZ2dnUVZ_q_inZ2d[at]earthlink.com... - quote - > BobKK47 wrote: > > Can a porcelain veneer be placed over a PFM upper anterior crown for > > the cosmetic purpose of eliminating the classic dark line that appears > > at the gum line? While theoretically you can etch porcelain in the mouth and maybe bond to the surface, I've never seen it done. You still couldn't achieve better translucency since the metal understructure is still there. You would also have to build up the porcelain at the gumline or opaque it if the margin of the PFM crown is really visible. It would be far better to just replace the PFM crown with an all-ceramic crown. Steve |

| Can a porcelain veneer be placed over a PFM upper anterior crown for the cosmetic purpose of eliminating the classic dark line that appears at the gum line? If so, will the veneer give the PFM crown a more translucent natural look? Thanks for information. |
