My periodondist agrees with you, that the position of the tooth is a huge
factor in its long term fate. So yes, there are other factors at work
<besides>
plaque. But he also states that, in general, zero plaque stops the disease
in
its tracks! They admit there is a lot they don't know, but can't keep
changing
procedure for every fad and whim that crops up.

The lower anterior teeth have the most calculus and probably the most
plaque. Yet they are usually the LAST teeth to be lost.

WHY???

Maybe there are other factors involved besides "plaque."

This is why epidemiology is so important.
